Joseph
Robert Pendergrass was born in Murfreesboro, Tenn. on November 20, 1990. He is
the son of Emily Kelley and James Pendergrass. He has a brother and sister,
Philip and Laura Pendergrass. He is the youngest of his siblings.
Pendergrass’ parents divorced before he
was born. Because of this situation he would travel to Knoxville, Tenn. every
other weekend with his brother and sister to visit his father and step mother.
He trips were always fun because there was never any worries about school or
chores. He spent the majority of his time with his cousins riding bikes and
playing video games. They also enjoyed playing almost any sport outside, where
they spent a majority of their time.
Pendergrass’ life at home was somewhat
stricter but he still had freedom to have fun with friends and family. His life
became even stricter when his mother married his step father Rodney Kelley. He
was raised on a farm so he made Pendergrass help out with everything around the
house. He would enjoy helping out, because it meant that he would receive
allowance.
Pendergrass was very active in high
school. He played football, basketball and baseball. His favorite sport to play
was football which was also the most time consuming. He would be practicing for
it in some way throughout the year. He also loved the practice because it made
him better at basketball and baseball, by making him more aggressive.
Pendergrass was not the best student because he did not put the necessary
effort into his work and studies. He would often put things off to the last
minute. People around him believed if he had applied himself he could have been
a straight A student. He graduated in 2009.
He was accepted into Middle Tennessee
State University but decided to attend Motlow State Community College instead.
He did this for financial reasons and also to make the transition to college an
easier process. He graduated from there in two in a half years with an
associate’s degree in mass communication. He then transferred to MTSU where he
currently attends school. He is working to get his bachelor’s degree in digital
media. He is still unsure what type of job he would like to pursue with that
degree, but he is hoping that it will be something he can make a career out of
and also enjoy.
